Dynamic Speed Ratings

When viewing form in our form book software you can see dynamic speed ratings on the race card

NOTE: Remember that when you change any filter the dynamic speed ratings may be affected because the race/s taken for the ratings may be affected by the filters. e.g. If you used the quick filter to just show wins then all the dynamic speed ratings would be taken from winning form only.


dyHA

This is the Highest Achieved Speed rating the horse as produced in it's career.


dyMR

This is the Median Speed rating achieved by the horse taken over all of it's runs. The median rating is the middle most rating of the horses ratings after they are sorted lowest to highest, if there are an even number of ratings after sorting then the median becomes the average of the middle two ratings, if there is only one rating then the median is that rating.


dyLTO

This is the Speed rating achieved on the horses latest outing.

NOTE: Remember that when you change any filter the dyLTO speed rating may be affected because the race taken for the last time out rating may be affected by the filters.


dyAVG(x)

This is the Average Speed Rating taken over X amount of races. The X amount or ratings can be changed in the preferences screen, the default is 3 races, so the dyAVG(x) rating would look at the last 3 races a horse ran in and take an average of the 3 recorded speed ratings. If a horse had only run twice then the average would taken over the two races and if it had only run once then the average would be that rating.


dyMR(x)

This is the Median Speed Rating taken over X amount of races. The X amount or ratings can be changed in the preferences screen, the default is 3 races, so the dyMR(x) rating would look at the last 3 races a horse ran in and take the middle most rating after they are sorted lowest to highest, if there are an even number of ratings after sorting then the median becomes the average of the middle two ratings, if there is only one rating then the median is that rating.

This is the Second Highest Achieved Speed Rating.


dyAVG

Exporting Dynamic Speed Ratings
The dynamic speed ratings were already in the export data tool under the calculated and filtered data list, they are still there to export in this list but the names have been changed to correspond to the names above.

Proform Speed Ratings Class Pars

Class Pars are the median figures for winners for each class of race in each of the five race types.

The data used is for UK horse racing since 2006. Here are the tables of class pars for flat and jumps.

How to Use Class Pars

One way is to only look at horses in a race that have clocked a speed figure that is higher than the median for that race type and class.

Lets look at an example using Last Time Speed Ratings.

From above we can see that the median speed rating for Class 1 AW races is 76.

If we use the system builder to analyse Class 1 AW races from 2006 onwards and then add in a parameter of <76 against the Last Time Out Ratings field on the Speed Ratings by Value tab

and run the system, we are returned :-

This shows how horses who last time out did not achieve a speed rating equal to or higher than the median for the class of race ran. 

If we then change the speed ratings value parameter to >=76, the results are

We can see straight away that this is twice the strike rate of the query above.

This tells us that horses who achieved a speed rating of at least 76 last time out hold a much better chance of winning in class 1 AW races.

The rating of 76 we used is equal to the class par for class 1 AW races.

Of course you don’t need to look at just the Last Time Out speed ratings, you could use any of the speed ratings.

Static Speed Ratings

Static Speed Ratings

When viewing form in our form book software you can see dynamic speed ratings on the race card.

Because these speed ratings are static, they are ranked within each race, which in turn means they can be analysed with the system builder.

Here is a screen image of the static speed ratings followed by an explanation of each field

General Rules for all the Static Speed Ratings

Speed ratings of zero ignored
All of the static speed ratings ignore 0 ratings.
This means in races in which horses did not finish (full, pulled up etc.) or were so far back that they did not warrant a speed rating will be ignored for the purposes of calculating the static speed ratings.

Race Types
All of the static speed ratings only look at races that are the same race type as the race you are looking at.

By same race type we mean, if the race you are viewing is a Chase then the static speed rating is the speed rating the horse has achieved in a Chase.

There are 5 race types that the static speed ratings utilise Flat Turf, Flat AW, Jumps Chase, Jumps Hurdle and Jumps NHF.

Median Speed Ratings

This is the highest speed rating the horse has achieved in the last 1 year in races that match the general rules for all static speed ratings as mentioned above.


stMR C

This is the median speed rating the horse has achieved in it's career to date in races that match the general rules for all static speed ratings as mentioned above.


stMR L1y
This is the median speed rating the horse has achieved in the last 1 year in races that match the general rules for all static speed ratings as mentioned above.


stMR L3r
This is the median speed rating the horse has achieved in the last 3 runs in races that match the general rules for all static speed ratings as mentioned above.


stLTO
This is the speed rating the horse has achieved last time out in races that match the general rules for all static speed ratings as mentioned above.


stLTO 2
This is the speed rating the horse has achieved 2nd last time out in races that match the general rules for all static speed ratings as mentioned above.


stLTO 3
This is the speed rating the horse has achieved 3rd last time out in races that match the general rules for all static speed ratings as mentioned above.


stLTO 4
This is the speed rating the horse has achieved 4th last time out in races that match the general rules for all static speed ratings as mentioned above.



Exporting Static Speed Ratings
The static speed ratings are now in the exporter tool along with their ranks and can be found under the runner data list.



Speed Rating Column Renamed
The speed rating column in the Race Results, Horse Form, Prior Form and Post Form screens have been renamed from Rating to Spd Rat, see Race Results screen-shot below
